Single crystal surfaces modification for electrocatalysis
Surfaces well-defined down to the atomic level are of key importance in catalysis, by allowing investigation of chemical reactions with homogeneous adsorption sites. Such surfaces can be obtained by cutting single crystal along precise crystallographic orientations. We will see first the effect of crystallographic orientation on selected electrochemical reactions. Second, surfaces will be modified by electrochemical deposition of foreign metals. By tailoring the deposits and thanks to in situ characterizations made by surface X‑Ray diffraction, we will be able to decorrelate several contributions (strain, ligand effect…) to the activity of the newly formed electrode for several oxidation reactions.
