The 2018 call for IDEXLYON Fellowships presents an exciting opportunity for researchers with a recent international track record, working on experimental or computational biology, or both, and wishing to establish their team at the Laboratory of Biology and Modelling of the Cell, the LBMC, in Lyon France.

Further to the recent publication (December 18th 2017) for IDEXLYON Fellowships, we are calling for Expressions of Interest (EoI) from researchers interested in establishing a research team within the LBMC.

Research conducted at the LBMC aims at unravelling fundamental biological processes at the molecular and cellular scales with the help of various experimental systems and animal models. Its scientific project relies on three main themes:

1) Quantitative approaches to genome dynamics and expression

2) Cellular and molecular pathological processes in cancer and aging

3) Systems biology of signalling and developmental cellular processes

The LBMC is located at the Ecole Normale Supérieure de Lyon, one the Université de Lyon’s 12 member institutions. The Université de Lyon was recently awarded the IDEX label, and this initiative arises from the Université de Lyon’s IDEX actions.

The call for IDEXLYON Fellowships aims to recruit top-level scientists with significant international experience to the Lyon Saint Etienne site. IDEXLYON Fellowships laureates will secure a 3-year fellowship with considerable resources (up to 1.2M€) to develop their research program.

Eligibility criteria are strict: applicants must have spent the last 5 to 6 years working outside the Lyon Saint Etienne site, including at least 2 years in a university or institution abroad. Experienced / mid career principal investigators who can lead a research team are invited to apply. Selection criteria include the quality of the scientific project, track record and structuring impact of the project in terms or research and training and coherence with IDEXLYON’s strategy for Bio-Health and Society.

The LBMC seeks to support the proposal of an outstanding researcher to the IDEXLYON Fellowships competitive call. Due to the very tight timeline (applications to the IDEXLYON Fellowship must be submitted before 30 March 2018), candidates interested in joining the LBMC via this mechanism are requested to send an expression of interest before Monday 5th of February 2018. An internal screening and evaluation process will be undertaken as applications are received. Potential applicants may be requested to travel to Lyon on short notice.

The LBMC is located in the Lyon Gerland campus within the Université de Lyon site (the second largest French University). The LBMC is part of a vibrant fundamental research community, which favours rich intellectual exchanges and collaborations. It has strong connections with the Laboratoire de Reproduction et Developpement des Plantes (RDP) and the Institut de Génomique Fonctionnelle de Lyon (IGFL). It is also located nearby the Centre International de Recherche en Infectiologie (CIRI) and the Institut de Biologie et Chimie des Protéines (IBCP). Currently, the LBMC is composed of 110 members and 11 independent research groups. The LBMC promotes a strong in-house bioinformatics community that helps research teams to develop dedicated data analysis processes. At the Lyon scale, many LBMC teams are involved in the research federation BioSyL (http://www.biosyl.org). LBMC researchers have full access to state-of-the-art core services, including high throughput sequencing technologies, X-Ray microtomography, 2D and 3D imaging and morphometrics, animal facilities (mouse, fish, drosophila etc), computing mesocenter (ENS de Lyon PSMN), mass spectrometry, proteomics, FACS sorting, live cell imaging and electron microscopy (for more information see http://www.sfr-biosciences.fr/). LBMC is affiliated to four institutions: ENS de Lyon, Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS-UMR 5239), Université Claude Bernard and Institut National de la Santé et de la Recherche Médicale (INSERM-U1210).
