This PAI Amadeus for 2002-2003 on "Services and tools in Network Programmable Cards" is with Linz University (Austria), funded by
French Ministery of Foreign Affairs suite of
PAI Amadeus with Linz University (Austria) (1/1/99 - 31/12/2000)
The main objective of this Amadeus project is to analyze, design, and
implement new models and ways of active and intelligent network services
in the areas monitoring, replay, checkpointing, and billing. In contrast
to related work, these services should be integrated directly on the
network interface card (NIC). The focus of the work is on both,
existing NIC's (such as Myrinet) and new hardware (such as programmable
ethernet cards, wireless cards, ...).
In particular, the following ideas should be realized:
- Implementation of dedicated services for record&replay
on Myrinet clusters
- Testing and evaluation of this approach compared
to record&replay mechanisms on hosts
- Experimenting on large Myrinet clusters with real applications.
The critical problems of this work are:
- How to deploy monitoring functionalities on NIC's?
- Which part of the required functionality can be performed on the NIC?
- Which part must remain on the host computer due to the limited
resources on the NIC?
