Research Topic #2: Network Control and Optimization

managed by Isabelle Guérin-Lassous

/!\ THIS IS A WORK IN A PROGRESS /!\

Overview & Goals

This Research Topic aims to guarantee Quality of Service in machine/user to machine/user communication, while using efficiently the resources of the future networks. The two problems that are tackled here are:

  • dynamic bandwidth sharing and congestion control in the Future Internet
  • control and flow management in semantic networks

Projects & Partners

  • EU DataTAG (CERN, Caltech), RNTL eToile /VTHD++(EDF, CEA, FT R&D),
  • EU AEOLUS, ANR IGTMD (LCG IN2P3 CNRS, RENATER, FermiLAB)
  • Pfldnet workshop serie (steering committee chair)
  • IETF (HIP), IRTF (ICCRG & TMRG), OGF Data Transport-RG (chair)

Results & Software

  • Optimization algorithms for network resource-sharing in very-high-speed networks (BDTS)
  • Algorithms for dynamic bandwidth provisioning based on the scheduling and aggregation of flows
  • Design of a language for specifying virtual infrastructures (VXDL)
  • Study on network and system virtualisation for the creation and usage of virtual private infrastructures
  • Distributed algorithms for bandwidth sharing in mobile or very-high-speed environments.
  • Analysis of the opportunity of extending the size of transfer units (XLFrames).
  • Analysis of flow scheduling and sampling-based scheduling
  • Analysis of flow-based routing
