TITLE: Contribution to improve data routing on VANETs (Vehicular Ad hocNetworks)


Currently, routing protocols in VANETs cannot provide a proper QoS. Any QoS protocol should guarantee satisfactorily a certain level of the provided performance according to the user's requirements. This is often achieved through resource reservation and dedicated infrastructure.

However, in vehicular ad-hoc wireless networks this is a difficult task since there is no infrastructure to be relied to guarantee the bandwidth.  The dynamic and cooperative nature of an ad-hoc network makes it difficult to do resource reservation. Factors such as link delay, node velocity and trajectory, node position, distance between nodes, and reliability of wireless links are key issues to the stability of a particular route. Some actions to improve the performance in vehicular routing have been done, e.g. algorithms to estimate the time during which a route will remain connected in order to choose the longest one, and also routing algorithms to minimize the amount of time required to rebuild the connection after link breakage. With those exceptions, the current suite of QoS VANET’s routing protocols is most aptly described as a set of best effort protocols.

 In our work, we plan to design a QoS-aware routing protocol for VANETs, which includes some of the main features suitable for VANETs: GPS localization, speed, direction, map information...
