In this talk we will present recent results on the Hele-Shaw/Muskat problem modeling multiphase flow in porous media and on the Rayleigh-Taylor instability in two-dimensional fluid flow. In particular, for the Hele-Shaw/Muskat problem we will focus on the effects of the impervious bottom in the evolution of the wave. Then, we will present new models for the RT instability. Using these models, we find good agreement for the growth of the mixing layer with experimental data in the "rocket rig" experiment of Read of Youngs.
