Title: Symmetries at root of unity, and the U(1)-invariant Potts model

Abstract: 

I will introduce a quantum chain generalizing the Potts model by keeping nearest-neighbour interaction and self-duality, but further requiring U(1) invariance.  I will show that this model can in fact be related to XXZ-type chains at root of unity, and can be used to revisit the latter in an enlightening perspective. This applies for instance to the degeneracies of the latter, associated with the presence of "exact n-strings". Several symmetries of the model will be exhibited, in particular Onsager algebra symmetry, for which the identification U(1) Potts-XXZ allows for interesting progress.
