The mechanisms controling the flow of granular matter through an aperture are still not fully understood. In order to obtain supplemental pieces of information on the mechanisms at play, we study the discharge of 3D vertical and 2D horizontal silos. In particular, we simultaneously measure the flow rate and the normal force on the base, near the outlet. The experiments confirms that the flow rate through an aperture is not controlled by the pressure in the outlet region (at leat measured in the outlet plane).
