Wednesday, March 25th, Chie Kodera, will give a seminar on her PhD and current works performed in Ken Sato Lab, at the University of Tokyo. It will be in the big CBP room, in LR6 at 10h00 am.

A novel GTPase-activating protein for Sar1

Transport vesicle budding from the endoplasmic reticulum employs the evolutionarily conserved COPII coat proteins to generate COPII vesicles under the control of the small GTPase Sar1. Sec23 is well known as a structural component of the COPII coat and as a GTPase-activating protein (GAP) for Sar1. We reported that yeast contains a novel Sec23 homolog, Nel1, which appears to have a distinct function as a subunit of the COPII coat (Kodera et. al., 2014). Nel1 does not associate with any of the COPII components, but it exhibits strong Sar1 GAP activity. In this seminar, I would like to talk about the functional analysis of Nel1 and discuss its possible physiological function.
