Professor Udaya Kumar of Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi will be invited Professor at the ENS de Lyon from October 12th to 30th. Invited by the research laboratory IRHIM, he will give three lectures in English on Dalit literature of the South of India.

Lecture 1, Tuesday 17 October 2017 - "Caste and the Present: Modernity, Modernism and Dalit Writing in India"

Lecture 2, Tuesday 24 October 2017 - "Spectrality and Narrative Voice: Reading Dalit Stories from India" (on short stories by C. Ayyappan)

Lecture 3, Wednesday 25 October 2017 - "Death and Contemporary Political Imaginaries"

These lectures are open to all.

Professor Udaya Kumar is the author of Writing the First Person: Literature, History and Autobiography in Modern Kerala (Rankhet: Permanent Black, 2016). At present he is engaged in research on political imaginaries and practices of memory making in Dalit literature, particularly in the South of India. His research also concerns autobiographies and modes of vernacular writing in India, as well as philosophical and theoretical questions related to agency, identity and historiography.
