In the framework of the serie of conferences "Paris, Nice...Reflecting on Terror..."
Speaker: Abdennour Bidar (Philosopher, IGEN)
The assumption of this conference is that Muslims are also now, just as much as others, modern beings, citizens of the world: it is impossible for Muslims today to pretend that they can ignore this modern image, that pervades them and that, a little more each day, transforms their vision of the world and the way they live. Islam must accommodate this modernity without fear, especially its great values of freedom, equality, tolerance, separation of religion and politics... It must, on the other hand, give up prescriptions of its Revelation that date from another time. It must not only do that to adapt to the modern world, but because the modern world also represents a spiritual event, a good moment, a light that can enlighten Islam and help us to find ourselves, to create an Islam for our time.
