Ariane Gayout

Former student of ENS Lyon (class of 2015), Ariane Gayout then joined the École Polytechnique where she obtained a master's degree in fluid mechanics. After a stay at the University of Reykjavik in Iceland, she returned to Lyon and is now pursuing a PhD at Laboratoire de Physique in the "Nonlinear & Hydrodynamics" team - Fluid Structure Interactions of Multi-Stable Pendular Systems - under the supervision of Nicolas Plihon and Mickaël Bourgoin.

She is also at the origin of the junior laboratory PHOeBUS which observes the flight of butterflies in gravity conditions similar to those in space.

Amelia Earhart Fellowship

Globally, women make up around 25 percent of the workforce in the aerospace industry. In an effort to carry out its mission that women have access to all resources and are represented in decision-making positions on an equal basis with men, Zonta International offers the Amelia Earhart Fellowship.

Established in 1938 in honor of famed pilot and Zontian Amelia Earhart, this $10,000 endowed scholarship is awarded annually to up to 35 women pursuing doctoral degrees in aerospace engineering or space science.

Amelia Earhart Fellows have gone on to become astronauts, aerospace engineers, astronomers, professors, geologists, entrepreneurs, and even a Secretary of the US Air Force.
