Pierre Corvol, Vice-President of the French Academy of Sciences in 2017-2018, has just been elected President of the Academy of Sciences for 2019-2020. In parallel, Patrick Flandrin has been elected Vice-President of the Academy of Sciences for the same period.

Pierre Corvol, Vice-President of the French Academy of Sciences in 2017-2018, has just been elected President of the Academy of Sciences for 2019-2020. He will assume his new position on January 1st, 2019, succeeding Sébastien Candel. In parallel, Patrick Flandrin has been elected Vice-President of the Academy of Sciences for the same period.

Patrick FlandrinPatrick Flandrin is CNRS research director at the École normale supérieure de Lyon. He was elected a member of the Academy of Sciences on November 30, 2010 in the "Mechanical and Computer Sciences" section.

His work focuses on signal representation, analysis and processing, with particular attention to non-stationary and multi-scale situations. He has contributed to the development of "time-frequency" and "time-scale" methods with multiple applications ranging from natural phenomena (from physics to biomedical engineering) to technological achievements (from mechanics to Internet traffic).

 

 

Pierre CorvolPierre Corvol is Professor Emeritus at the Collège de France and Honorary Director of the Collège de France. He was elected correspondent on November 3, 1986, and then member on November 13, 1995 in the "Human Biology and Medical Sciences" section. He was also Vice-President of the Academy of Sciences for 2017-2018.
