As each year, ENS de Lyon and the Institute of East Asian Studies (IAO in French) will celebrate the new lunar year 農曆新年.

This year, under the sign of the Rabbit in China and the Cat in Vietnam, the Institute of East Asia and the ENS Lyon invite you to delve into the works of Japanese filmmaker Morita Hiroyuki and Chinese cartoonist Liao Bingxiong, both of whom feature cat characters.

6.30pm - Welcome and wishes for the Year from Béatrice Jaluzot, Director, and Claude Chevaleyre, Deputy Director, of the IAO.

6.45pm - Discussion with the participation of Julien Bouvard (lecturer in Japanese studies at the University Jean-Moulin Lyon 3, IETT), Marie Laureillard (lecturer in Chinese studies at the University Lumière Lyon 2, IAO) and Raphaëlle Yokota (doctoral student, ATER in Japanese studies at the University Jean-Moulin Lyon 3, IFRAE, IETT, IAO), moderated by Norbert Danysz (PhD student in Chinese studies at the University Lumière Lyon 2, IAO).

8pm - Screening of Morita Hiroyuki's film - Kingdom of Cats [Neko no ongaeshi 猫の恩返し]

Summary from Studio Ghibli France: The story centers on teenager Haru, an ordinary girl who unwittingly becomes involved in a world of felines. One day, while walking in a park, she saves a Persian cat, who in reality is a feline prince. In gratitude, the prince gives her fabulous gifts and invites her to his kingdom. Haru accepts and begins an adventure filled with trials and challenges.
