Jean-François Pinton
Born in 1959 in Nice, Jean-François Pinton, president of the ENS de Lyon since 2014, was himself a former student of the École Normale Supérieure de Saint-Cloud prior to its merger with the ENS de Fontenay.

After advanced studies in physics (he passed the agrégation in 1984), Jean-François Pinton joined the newly-born ENS Lyon in 1989. As a senior researcher at the National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS), he led research on statistical physics and complex systems.

In 2007, the French Academy of Sciences awarded him the Grand Prize of the Atomic Energy Commission (CEA) for his work on the dynamo effect. Jean-François Pinton also founded the International Center for Turbulence Research and sits on the editorial committees of several publications, including the New Journal of Physics and European Physical Journal.

Véronique Queste has been executive officer at the ENS de Lyon since 2014.
Born in 1958 in northeastern France, she is a biological engineer and holds a degree in biology and plant physiology (1981).

She started her career in the private sector in 1982, managing a plant pathology lab for a major French seed maker before moving to the United States.

In 2003, she took a specialized training in quality management and joined the ENS de Lyon to implement a new quality policy at the school's biology facilities and later implement this organization in its research department, of which she became coordinator in 2010.

Yanick Ricard
Born in 1958, Yanick Ricard, vice-president in charge of research of the ENS de Lyon since 2014, was himself a former student of the Ecole Normale Supérieure de Saint-Cloud prior to its merger with the ENS de Fontenay.

After advanced studies in physics (he passed the agrégation in 1981), Yanick Ricard got his PhD at Université d'Orsay where he entered the National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS). He moved to the ENS in Paris where he became senior researcher, then to the ENS de Lyon in 1994. He led research on various aspects of geophysics to improve our knowledge of Earth's structure and dynamics.

He was awarded the CNRS silver medal in 2000 for his work explaining the anomalies of Earth's gravity in terms of mantle convection and the Augustus Love medal (2012) by the European Geophysical Society for his research on the origin of plate tectonics. He served in several editorial committees and was editor of Earth and Planetary Science Letters.

Jean-Luc Argentier (General Manager)
Jean-Luc Argentier has been the general manager of the ENS de Lyon since September 2014.
He holds a Master in public law and studied at the Regional Institute of Administration as well as the Superior School of National Education (École Supérieure de l’Éducation Nationale).

He started his career as a public accountant for secondary schools and joined higher education as the deputy secretary-general of Paris XIII University and, later, of the University of Savoy.

He joined the CROUS, France’s regional student welfare services, first in Grenoble as secretary-general, then in the area of Orleans-Tours as director of the local CROUS.

Again in Grenoble, working as the general manager of the University Joseph Fourier in 2008, he prepared the institution for extended competences and responsibilities, before joining the ENS de Lyon.

Lyasid Hammoud holds a postgraduate degree in business law from the University of Rouen. Before joining the ENS de Lyon, he worked for France Telecom, the French Institute for Research in Computer Science and Automation (INRIA) and the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS) – a career encompassing the legal, financial and human aspects of administration, as well as matters of technology transfer and partnerships.

2000-2002: INRIA (French Institute for Research in Computer Science and Automation), legal advisor for public procurement, European contracts and intellectual property rights

2002-2006: CNRS – Department of legal affairs – advisor for contracts and intellectual property

2006-2007: CNRS – Special advisor to the director-general of the CNRS for the legal implementation of the 7th European Framework Programme for Research.

2006-2009: CNRS Institute of biological sciences – head of partnerships and technology transfer

2009-2012: CNRS Institute of biological sciences – deputy to the administrative and financial director (300 laboratories and research units, 5,000 agents)

2012-May 2015: CNRS Institute of physics – administrative and financial director (120 laboratories and research units, 2,200 agents).
