Application for Master's degrees - Non-europeans

General information

Non-european students can apply for our Master's degrees (M1 or M2) depending on the quality of the candidate’s academic profile and motivation for research or/and teaching careers.

This application process concerns NON-EUROPEANS students.

NON-EUROPEANS students are students:
- who don't have the nationality of one of the countries of the European Economic Area (the 28 countries of the European Union, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein), or of Switzerland, Monaco and Andorra.
- who have obtained a higher education degree in a foreign country.

Please note:

  • Students applying through this process can not enroll to the diploma of ENS de Lyon (specific process).
  • Applications are reviewed by the ENS de Lyon's admission committee.
  • In each program description, the language profiency requirements (English and/or French) are mentioned: Academic programs.

Conditions

To apply for the first year of a Master's program (M1), applicants should justify holding a L3 degree (Bachelor - 180 ECTS) or, for applicants who have studied abroad, an equivalent level.

To apply for the second year of a Master's program (M2), applicants should justify holding a M1 degree (240 ECTS) or, for applicants who have studied abroad, an equivalent level.

Application process

Please find below the application process depending on your country of residence:

  • Application process for students who reside in one of the countries affected by the "Etudes en France" (Studying in France) procedure
  • Application process for other students, that is who are not European or living in a country affected by the “Etudes en France” procedure and who have obtained a higher education degree in a foreign country.

1- Online entry of applications

Opening dates for application: until March 1st, 2021

Apply online on the "Études en France" Platform (Campus France)

If you apply directly to the ENS de Lyon, your application will not be considered.

Opening dates for application: from December 17, 2020 (noon, Paris time) to January 15, 2021 (23:59, Paris time)

Apply online on CADENS

The attachments to support the application file are listed in the CADENS web application based on each discipline.They must be uploaded to the same application.

Here is the list of mandatory documents  to provide:

  • Copy of your passport or national ID card
  • Resume
  • Cover letter
  • A transcript of your grades for your past and present studies
  • Certificate of Language Proficiency
  • If you are applying for a Master’s program in the Arts, Humanities, Languages or Social Sciences:
    • a certificate of Proficiency in French: Minimum B2 or C1 level (depending on the Master's choosen) for all disciplines excepted for the Master in Advanced Economics (see below)
      Official document: certification (DALF, DELF, TCF) or document from your University.
      If you are coming from a French Speaking country, or studied in a French school, you can join a letter in French stating this point.
    • a certificate of proficiency in English:
      Only for the Master in Advanced Economics, minimum B2 required, C1 recommended.
      Official document : certification (IELTS or TOEFL) or document from your University.
      If you come from a English Speaking country, please attach a letter in English stating this point.
  • If you are applying for admission in Exact Sciences:
    • a certificate of Proficiency in English
      Minimum of C1 in Computer sciences
      Minimum of B2 for the other Master's programs
      Official document: certification (IELTS or TOEFL) or document from your University.

      If you come from a English Speaking country, please attach a letter in English stating this point
    • a certificate of Proficiency in French
      Minimum of B2 in Biology
      No minimum level required for the other Master's programs
      Official document : certification (IELTS or TOEFL) or document from your University.
      If you are coming from a French Speaking country, or studied in a French school, you can join a letter in French stating this point.

Additional documents may be requested depending on the discipline chosen, when you apply on CADENS.

Incomplete applications will not be considered.

2- File review Candidates' files are reviewed by the ENS de Lyon admissions commission. No decision will be communicated by phone.
3- Publication of results The results of the admissions commission will be communicated in June, 2021. The results of the admissions commission will be available on the CADENS web application in February, 2021.
4- Confirmation of admission and registration

Admitted applicants will receive an email giving them directions to register.
