Informations générales sur le cours : CHIM4112

Content objectif
  • Interdisciplinary teaching unit accessible to students attending the Inorganic, (nano)materials, catalysis (IMC) and Supramolecular, Organic and Biochemistry curriculum to better understand the reactivity and physical chemistry of macromolecules.
  • Understand and use the general principles of polymer design and the associated analytical tools enabling to explore their properties and how these are correlated to their structure
  • Opening toward industrial application (traditional material such as polyurethanes, polycarbonates, polyolefins, polylactic acids but also biosourced, renewable and self-repairing polymers, including biomacromolecules).

PLAN DU COURS

1.    Macromolecules and reactivity : from synthesis to self-assembling and repair (step growth, chain growth, living polymerization, metathesis, co-polymerization, reticulation, reversible (non)-covalent, chain recombination, etc..)
2.    Structure – Properties relationship : from conformation and tacticity to remarkable thermomechanical and electrical properties under extreme stress (average molecular weight, dispersity, topology, rheological, thermomechanical, swelling, adhesion, conductivity
3.    Macromolecules and biological medium
      a.    Biomacromolecules: from the building blocks of life to self-replication
      b.    From Biocompatible materials to hybrid conjugates
4.    Integration of macromolecules into material and devices : from separative chemistry (chromatography and beyond) to artificial muscles, solar and fuel cells. Initiation to eco-design.
