Out-of-Equilibrium Physics

June 19 - 21, 2013, ENS-Lyon, France

The study of non-equilibrium physical systems is dedicated to non-linear behaviors, with the apparition and development of singular patterns, instabilities and original collective motions... Thus, it covers a very wide range of areas and systems, such as:

Convection and Turbulence in Hydrodynamics, Deformation and Fracture of heterogeneous media or Aging of Glassy systems in Materials Science.

With the development of new concepts and tools from Statistical Physics and Non-linear Physics, the study of such diverse systems allows to identify "Universal" mechanisms for however, extremely different situations.

    Objectives:

We have the opportunity to gather many renowned international experts

  1. -who have played and still play a major role in various fields of Non-Equilibrium Physics -

to celebrate the 60th birthday of our colleague Sergio Ciliberto.

Therefore, we will attempt a timely synthesis of recent developments, achieved in various domains that can now be seen as interconnected. The objective is to foster the exchange of theoretical ideas and experimental results across various disciplines.

    Key Topics:

During the Conference, the mains topics discussed will be:

  1. -The Aging of amorphous materials, the slow dynamics of relaxation to equilibrium,

(Glassy dynamics, Quench at a critical point)

  1. -The statistical aspects of Deformation and Fracture

  2. -The spatiotemporal intermittency in Turbulent flows

  3. -The fluctuations of global quantities in strongly correlated systems,

(Multi-scale fluctuations close to a critical point)
