‘ScienzEstate’, Sesto Fiorentino, June 9-13, 2014 <\/span><\/h1>\n

The pNMR project has been presented during the eleventh edition of \u201cScienzEstate\u201d, the scientific dissemination initiative of the University of Florence. The program of the initiative, scheduled on June 9-13, 2014, took places over four evenings in Florence and in the University campus in Sesto Fiorentino. All activities were free admission.
\nThe event aimed at allowing everybody to explore the places where research is performed through many activities: performances, workshops, interactive demonstrations and guided tours for all ages.
\nOn June 10 and 11, several activities were organized by CIRMMP and Giotto scientists at CERM, within the scientific campus in Sesto Fiorentino, among which:<\/p>\n

i. Exploring the proteins with nuclear magnetic resonance. We’ll see together how you can use NMR to explore the structure of proteins.
\nii. Let’s play with the proteins. The proteins cannot be seen but we can find out where they are hidden.
\niii. Metabolomics: a new health aid. Visit the magnets of CERM, among the most powerful in the world; how metabolomics can help preventing and diagnosing diseases.
\niv. Going to school of food: a game to grow.
\nv. How many bacteria are all around us? We will try to cultivate bacteria that are around us.<\/p>\n

During the events organized at CERM, attended by about 400 people, a poster on the pNMR project was presented to the visitors. The poster was on display at the main entrance of CERM. In the poster it is evidenced how the support of EU to PhD students and postdocs is allowing them to visit several laboratories of excellence throughout Europe and perform their research in NMR of paramagnetic systems.<\/p>\n

A poster was presented during the Training at the CERM premises, visible by every person working in the laboratories.

This poster was also displayed during the poster session organised at Cambridge University during our second annual workshop on Wednesday 17th September 2014.<\/p>\n

Industrial Applications of pNMR, Second Annual Workshop, Corpus Christi College Cambridge University, 18th Sept 2014 <\/span><\/h1>\n

11 6th forms students from Cambridge local schools volunteered to attend our ‘industrial applications’ morning.
\nThey were given a tour of the lab by two members of the Grey Group Laboratory,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

and then given a presentation on battery research, and why using NMR.

\nStudents were then ushered to the conference room, where they attended lectures from Nathan Barrow – from Johnson Matthey – about Solid State NMR for Industrial R&D, Thomas K\u00f6ster – from BMW – on Diagnostics for Lithium ion Batteries in the Automotive Industry, and finally from one of our partners, Tomas \u00c5kerud (Astra Zeneca) about NMR in the Pharmaceutical Industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We were very pleased to welcome future university students to our event, and hope it rose their interest for science, maybe even encouraging them to consider a career in the field when applying for Uni this year!
