In this talk I will consider very simple active particles, whose natural velocity is linked to a scalar gradient, for example bacteria with nutrients, without any retroaction (the scalar evolves freely); the aim is to study what happens when such particles are exposed to an external flow. I will consider very simple flows (linear or cellular flows). In the case of a cellular flow, the numerical and theoretical results will be compared with those of an experiment carried out at the Laboratoire de Physique, consisting of active charged colloids, sensitive to salt gradients, in a horizontal Rayleigh-Bénard cell.
