Granular materials are involved in nature, in particular in debris avalanches, and in industry. The description of granular materials as a continuum is a long standing question with still no good answer. Many studies establish, from laboratory experiments or discrete element simulations, relations between macroscopic quantites such as volume fraction, strain rate, stress. But the results apparently depend on the configuration, and no general rheology has been established. The case of wet grains is even more difficult. I will expose what kind of relations and rheologies have been considered, and how they could fit within the framework of viscoplastic models.
