The surface of a thin liquid film with nonconstant curvature is unstable, as the Laplace pressure drives a flow mediated by viscosity. The thin-film equation governs the evolution of the free surface profile within the lubrication approximation. Despite many efforts, this equation remains only partially solved. First, we present an analytical and numerical study of the thin-film equation [1]. In particular, we show that the solutions uniformly converge in time towards a first kind self-similar universal attractor, regardless of the initial conditions. Then, we successfully compare experiments on thin-polymer films with the lubrication theory [2,3,4,8]. Finally show that these system are a sensitive probe for the study of the glass transition [5], viscoelasticity [6], and slip at the solid-liquid interface [7] to name a few.
