Granular separation under vibration is a key mechanism in a wide range of filtration and sorting processes, yet its efficiency is controlled by complex collective dynamics. Here, two fundamental mechanisms governing vibrational granular cleaning systems are investigated independently. First, particle transport over an asymmetric ratchet is studied under vertical, horizontal, and combined vibrations, focusing on how particle size and geometry as well as forcing conditions control transport direction, velocity, and characteristic times. Second, granular sieving is examined via dry avalanches over meshes of varying aperture, with particle deposition analyzed as a function of position along the sieve surface to optimize particle throughput. The results show how geometric asymmetry and external forcing can be tuned to enhance transport control and segregation efficiency, providing a minimal physical framework for optimizing vibrational granular separation systems.
