Quantum sensing and metrology

Designing and advancing techniques for high-precision measurement using quantum effects.

Quantum Sensing with Single Electrons and Spins

Audrey Bienfait, Pascal Degiovanni

We develop sparse and adaptive single-electron tomography protocols in electron quantum optics, aiming to generate tailored electron wavepackets for interferometric sensing of quantum electromagnetic fields.

Using superconducting circuits capable of detecting microwave signals from only a few electron spins, we design near-field probes to detect such signals for applications in solid-state defect sensing and in chemical or biological environments.

Entanglement-Enhanced Atomic Metrology

F. Mezzacapo, T. Roscilde

We explore entanglement-assisted quantum metrology with neutral atoms for the detection of inertial forces. We focus on whether strong correlations in lattice gases can generate enough momentum entanglement for this purpose; and whether artificial spin-orbit coupling in spinor gases can be used to couple inertial forces to massively spin-entangled states of atomic ensembles.
