Getting to ENS Lyon
The École normale supérieure de Lyon is located in the Gerland district, in the south of Lyon, near the Pasteur Bridge, on the left bank of the Rhône. It is easy to find, close to the Halle Tony Garnier.
With its two smokestacks, the building resembles a large boat.
Only the main entrance is freely accessible to the public.
From Lyon–Saint Exupéry Airport
Take the Rhônexpress tram from the airport to the Lyon Part-Dieu train station.
From Lyon Part-Dieu Train Station
- Exit the station via the Vivier Merle exit.
- Take metro line B towards Gare d’Oullins.
- Get off at the Debourg station.
- Then continue on foot for 5 minutes towards the ENS Lyon Monod campus main entrance, where the LIP is located.
From Lyon Perrache Train Station (three options):

Go to the tram stop at Lyon Perrache station.
Take tram line T1 towards Gerland.
Get off at the ENS Lyon stop.
Then continue on foot for 5 minutes towards the ENS Lyon Monod campus main entrance, where the LIP is located. -
Go to the bus station and take bus line C22.
Get off at the Place des Docteurs Mérieux stop.
Then continue on foot for 5 minutes towards the ENS Lyon Monod campus main entrance, where the LIP is located. -
Go to the bus station and take bus line C60.
Get off at the Halle Tony Garnier stop.
Then continue on foot for 5 minutes towards the ENS Lyon Monod campus main entrance, where the LIP is located.
By Public Bicycle (Vélo’v)
Lyon was one of the first cities to introduce a public bicycle system, called Vélo’v.
If you have time and would like to clear your mind before arriving at the LIP, you should definitely choose this means of transport.
From either Lyon Perrache train station or Lyon Part‑Dieu train station, the trip should take no more than 30 minutes (Perrache: 2.5 km, Part-Dieu: 3 km).
Bicycles must be returned to designated Vélo’v stations – a full map is available on the Vélo’v website.
