Isocyanides, powerful building-blocks to explore new fertile lands

Isocyanides constitute very powerful building blocks. They are ideal partners to settle multicomponent reactions, which will be illustrated through the examples of Ugi-Smiles and Passerini-Smiles reactions. Close collaboration between organic and theoretical chemists led to the development of predictive tools for these two reactions. These multicomponent couplings have been widely studied in heterocyclic synthesis but their interest is mainly associated to the rapid linkage of different functionalities in order to develop organometallic reactions. Several metal-catalyzed reactions will be presented here as well as the first results concerning related mechanistic studies.
