RAPToR: estimating biological age from gene expression

RAPToR (Real Age Prediction from Transcriptome staging on Reference) accurately estimates physiological age of a sample from its gene expression thanks to high-resolution references built from existing time-series gene expression profiles.

RAPToR works with whole animal, dissected tissue and single-cell data for the most common animal models, humans and even for non-model organisms lacking reference data. Moreover, it is effective both for development and ageing.

Inferred age can then be used in multiple ways to precisely estimate perturbations effects on developmental timing or ageing, increase power in differential expression analyses and to recover perturbation specific effects on gene expression even when the perturbation of interest is completely confounded by age.

RAPToR is implemented in R and can be found here: https://github.com/LBMC/RAPToR

RAPToR has now been published in Nature Methods http://www.nature.com/articles/s41592-022-01540-0
