We will explore different surface techniques, from the traditional laboratory XPS as applied to identify atomic composition on single crystals to synchrotron techniques used to identify interphase species present at nanoparticle surfaces in solution. In that journey we will look at examples of the application of these technique in the understanding of heterogenous catalysis.
