GLACIER TABLES

Nicolas Taberlet

The dynamics of the glacier tables formation is a proxy to follow global glacier melting. This work aims at understanding the physical processes of glacier tables formation based on laboratory experiments, theory, numerical simulations and field data.

FLUID EMISSION IN SEDIMENTARY BASINS

Valérie Vidal

Sedimentary basins are large provinces offshore continental margins, where the sediment thickness reaches several kilometers. Fluid (liquid or gas) rise through these sediments, and produce depressions (pockmarks) or mud volcanoes on the seafloor. Laboratory models of fluid rise in water-saturated sand layers, coupled to field data analysis, provide insights on the mechanisms of fluid focalization in the subsurface.

PLATE TECTONICS

Valérie Vidal

Although it is well-known that arc volcanoes are formed above a subducting plate, the influence of topographic anomalies on the variation of arc volcano volumes is less clear. Based on geophysical and geochemical data, we investigate the link between subducting topographic features and arc volcanism volume variation around the Pacific basin.
