This course, taught entirely in English, introduces students to a broad range of vocabulary related to theatre and dramaturgy, encompassing dramatic texts, staging practices, and contemporary performance in its various forms. It also develops the academic language and critical frameworks necessary for discussing theatre from scholarly and theoretical perspectives.

Drawing on key reference works in theatre and performance studies, students will acquire a comprehensive understanding of theatre terminology, dramaturgical concepts, and methods of performance analysis. Students will also engage with critical, dramaturgical, and semiotic approaches to the analysis of dramatic texts, performances, and stagecraft.

Throughout the course, students will read excerpts from plays and critical texts, participate in discussions and close readings, and develop their academic and professional writing skills through practical workshops. Writing exercises will include abstracts for conference, calls for papers, theatre reviews, and directors' notes.
