Fluid Structure Interactions
Aerodynamics and fluid-structure interactions
Mickaël Bourgoin, Nicolas Plihon
We study fluid-structure interactions in various dynamic systems, from pendulums to aerial vehicles. Building on previous studies, investigations into turbulent dynamics of pendulums and cable cars will refine models of aerodynamic bistability and unsteady effects, with applications in energy harvesting and stability control.
Phoebus project
Mickaël Bourgoin, Nicolas Plihon
The Phoebus project, funded by CNES, pursues the exploration of flapping flight under altered gravity, drawing inspiration from butterfly wingbeat mechanics to inform both biological evolution, aerodynamics and possible outcomes for space exploration. Extending this work, research on the aerodynamics of confined drones, incollaboration with academic and industrial partners, integrates aerodynamics, biomimetics, robotics, and AI to enhance drone maneuverability in complex environments.
Sport physics
Philippe Odier, Vincent Dolique
Building on a robust code produced this last year, allowing to detect automatically the position of cyclists on a track during a race, we will on one side investigate how this code can be improved by the use of IA, in collaboration with our colleagues from the signal processing team, and on the other hand, use this code to characterise strategies and aerodynamic effects in track races, in collaboration with the French Cycling Federation.
