At the opening of the International Congress of the International Mathematical Union which was held this August in India, Professor Cédric VILLANI was awarded the Fields Medal, the highest world distinction in mathematics.

Cédric Villani is a professor at the Ecole Normale Supérieure de Lyon where he is a member of the Pure and Applied Mathematics Unit - UMPA (CNRS/ENS de Lyon), as well as being the director of the Institut Poincaré. Cédric Villani contributes to maintaining France's second place in world mathematics research.
