To increase researchers’ chances of success in developing their projects, ENS de Lyon supports them throughout the process by providing technical assistance and helping them diversify their funding applications.
This collaborative effort contributes to the internationalization and promotion of research.
- Monitoring, Identification, and Outreach to Researchers
Identifying researchers’ needs and corresponding funding opportunities. Keeping them informed throughout their careers about opportunities and calls for proposals, raising their awareness of the variety of funding sources (regional, national, European, international), and supporting them in developing their projects: disseminating calls for proposals, organizing informational meetings and training sessions (grant proposal writing workshops, preparation for oral presentations; ANR, ERC, etc.). - Project development
Providing researchers with the necessary technical information on financial, administrative, and legal matters during the proposal development process. Facilitating project structuring and the drafting of non-scientific sections. Assisting with consortium management for collaborative projects. - Contract management
Managing the agreement with the funding party until the contract is signed. Negotiating amendments during the course of the project, as well as consortium agreements.
ENS de Lyon encourages researchers to participate in and apply for funding from the European Horizon Europe program and other local, national, and international projects.
Indeed, funding providers, whether public or private, regional, national, European, or international, offer a wide range of funding opportunities for research projects. The best known are the French National Research Agency (ANR), the European Commission (EC), and the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Region (AURA), but there are others as well.
The various calls for proposals also have a range of objectives: to fund single-partner projects, collaborative projects, mobility initiatives, recruitment, research equipment, scientific networks, conferences, and more.
The Call for Proposals Support Office (DAAP) assists researchers—regardless of their research areas, whether in the humanities and social sciences or in STEM—in identifying funding sources and, more specifically, calls for proposals that match their projects and needs.
- National Research Agency (ANR): The National Research Agency is responsible for implementing project-based research funding in France.
- Regional and national calls for proposals (Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Region, University of Lyon, City of Lyon, Ministries, Foundations)
- Horizon Europe: The Horizon Europe program brings together the European Union’s 2021–2027 funding for research and innovation and is structured around three main priorities: scientific excellence, industrial leadership, and societal challenges. The program is implemented through open and competitive calls for proposals.
- Horizon Europe Toolkit: To guide you through all the opportunities offered by this program, the Call for Proposals Support Office has developed a toolkit to help you develop your research projects—whether individual or collaborative—as well as seed funding programs at the regional and national levels. On this page, you’ll find useful resources tailored to the different stages of your career and to the type and maturity of your project.
- Example of a European Call for Proposals – European Research Council: The ERC funds scientific excellence at the frontiers of knowledge. It is a “white” science program dedicated to exploratory research, with scientific excellence as its sole selection criterion.
