ENS de Lyon has adopted a Charter of Commitment against all forms of discrimination, racism, antisemitism, violations of rights, incitement to hatred, and violence.

Issues of diversity and equality are an integral part of ENS de Lyon's institutional mission. Whether related to gender, social or geographic background, or any other form of exclusion, these inequalities have no place within the School. Through its charter against all forms of discrimination and violence, ENS de Lyon strongly reaffirms its commitment to equality and respect for human rights.

This charter is the result of collaboration by a multidisciplinary working group led by the Equality and Diversity Office during the 2025-2026 academic year. It covers a wide range of forms of discrimination, including, in particular, classism, racism, antisemitism, xenophobia, sexism, LGBT+phobia, and ableism, as well as psychological harassment and sexist and sexual violence.

The scope of this charter is intentionally broad to align with the legal framework, which identifies 26 grounds for discrimination. It applies to the entire School community, including individuals who participate in the School’s activities on an occasional basis. It applies to all activities taking place on campus—including in residence halls and university dining facilities—as well as off-campus (internships, fieldwork, seminars, conferences, student events, etc.) and online (e.g., social media and messaging apps).

To support this charter, the working group has identified and produced additional resources: appendices that clarify certain definitions or legal aspects, a summary of the procedure for investigating reports, and a guide and action plan that round out the framework.

From now on, everyone at ENS de Lyon is committed to adhering to this charter, marking another step toward an inclusive, respectful, and supportive environment.
