18:00-19:50

On December 3, 2026, ENS de Lyon will award an honorary doctorate to Marianne Bertrand, a professor of Economics at the University of Chicago and a leading figure in international economic research. The ceremony will be followed by a lecture titled “Gender Inequality, Stereotypes, and Identity,” open to everyone—students, staff, and members of the general public—upon registration.
During this lecture, Marianne Bertrand will examine how stereotypes and identity perpetuate gender inequalities in education and the labor market. She will seek to understand why men and women continue to make different choices regarding their careers, fields of study, and family life, and whether these choices reflect innate differences or social norms dictating how each gender is expected to behave. The lecture will be followed by a question-and-answer session.
The lecture and discussion will be held in English.
Registration for participants begins at 5:15 p.m.
The event will be live-streamed: access the live stream
Please note that this event will be preceded by a discussion session dedicated to students, who will have the opportunity to ask Marianne Bertrand any questions they may have. Register to the discussion session
