Sujet :
The genetic information stored in the DNA of living organisms determines critical features of these organisms and of their progeny. In many instances though, identical genetic information gives rise to mutually exclusive phenotypes that are stably propagated through cell division or even sexual reproduction. Those are referred to as epigenetic states. Chromatin structure is believed to be a major epigenetic determinant in eukaryotes. I will discuss results from my laboratory addressing whether and how chromatin structure can mediate epigenetic inheritance in fission yeast and present our attempts at modeling these effects.
