Times Higher Education ranking

The Times Higher Education has published its first "Top 20 best small universities in the world", in which the ENS de Lyon ranks fifth. The ENS Ulm, Ecole Polytechnique and the ENS de Lyon are the only French institutions featured in this 2016-2017 international ranking.
The world's best "small universities" are here described as having fewer than 5,000 students and offering both an intimate environment and a wide range of academic opportunities.
In the broader THE World University Rankings 2015-2016, the ENS de Lyon shines in physical sciences as well as engineering and technology, securing respectively the 84th and 93rd spots. This puts it among the top 100 universities for these disciplines alongside other prestigious institutions such as Ecole Normale, Ecole Polytechnique, Pierre and Marie Curie University and Paris-Descartes.
