Université de Lyon Presse release. March 7, 2022.

The Université de Lyon wishes to express its deep solidarity with the Ukrainian people, severely affected by the war since February 24th, and more particularly with its entire academic community.

Widely open to the international scene, the Lyon Saint-Étienne area is enriched by a vast circulation of talents in both research and training. A melting pot of critical thinking, the university carries founding values of universality, openness and tolerance.

This is why the Université de Lyon is committed to supporting all efforts to address the serious political and humanitarian crisis caused by this war.

Several measures are thus implemented with our institutions, in order to allow Ukrainian professors, researchers and students to continue their activity in the best possible conditions:

  • Inventory of reception capacities and facilities on site,
  • Collection of material support for Ukrainians,
  • Rallying of student life and health services in Lyon and Saint-Étienne.

The collective work undertaken will be regularly updated on our website.

Please note that these local operations complement national resources, such as the simplification of Erasmus procedures or the PAUSE program (emergency fund for researchers in danger, granted by the French Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation).

All efforts must now strengthen education and the dissemination of knowledge, core activities of the university, crucial for building lasting peace in Europe.
