Neo-Latin school of the Labex COMOD


Neolatinlyon 2017 offers intensive training in neo-Latin through the study of texts in different disciplines: literature, philosophy, law, theology, medicine, sciences - physics, mathematics.

The four-day training program includes workshops with lectures addressing specific examples, to more general questions:
  • How to approach a Latin text, not only from a philological point of view, but also in a historical, conceptual way?
  • What are the cultural, intellectual, scientific or religious areas where these texts can be produced?
  • How can we use concepts of the History of books and ecdotics to understand better?
  • What is their relationship to vernacular languages?

For who?
Master’s student(s), doctoral and postdoctoral students, researcher(s) in literature, philosophy, history, history of science, history of religions. All levels of Latin are accepted. Each nominee is required to specify their level of Latin in their CV. Organizers will forward the materials that will be discussed in the workshops to all participants.
Students from the doctoral schools ED 484 (3LA) and ED 487 of the COMUE "University of Lyon", this training can be considered, with the agreement of their Director of Thesis, as «specialty training».
How to apply?
The number of places is limited, the interested candidate(s) must send a brief CV and covering letter (in French or English) by e-mail no later than Monday, February 20, 2017 to: smaranda.marculescu@ens-lyon.fr or neolatinlyon@sciencesconf.org, indicating the subject: "Neolatinlyon."
Applications will be studied by a Steering Committee. Results will be sent out at the end of February at the latest. The organizers will take care of the accommodation for successful candidates.
