Exposition de Vahan Soghomonian

Vahan Soghomonian is the first artist to exhibit in the “Artemisia” Gallery of ENS de Lyon which opened its doors in May this year. Born in 1982 in Lyon, he has created an evolutionary sound installation: A home for street plants inside an artist's residence. A moving sculpture, evoking a Soviet satellite from the ‘70s, provides space for plant cuttings to grow in the cracks of an urban fabric. It is equipped with a magenta-colored horticultural LED lamp, providing a strip of persistent green as visitors leave this living artwork. Musical arrangements, composed by Tomi Yard, and based on sounds recorded during the refurbishment of the room, add rhythm to the visit.
The artist explores plasticity of cerebral mechanisms, in other words, the brain’s potential to adapt and evolve. He will work on the exhibit, for 5 weeks, changing the content, experimenting and involving people from the School, to develop the "SKHOLÈ".
Educational activities and meetings will be organized for students, gardeners, researchers and other visitors, musicians and visual artists, including Tomi Yard and Jean-Paul Thibeau.
This exhibition is presented in connection with the second thematic school “Anthropocène” at ENS de Lyon, from 2 to 4 November 2017, on the theme of mobility, which echoes the theme of the 2017 Biennale of Lyon.
