Le deuxième séminaire du projet InSpectA, intitulé "L'engagement corporel des spectateurs : sensorimotricité et cognition incarnée" aura lieu le lundi 17 janvier 2022. Il fera dialoguer spécialistes de théâtre antique, d'études théâtrales et de psychologie expérimentale autour de la notion d’embodied cognition, en français “cognition incarnée”, à savoir l’hypothèse selon laquelle les processus cognitifs (perception, raisonnement, mémoire, imagination, etc.) ne prennent pas seulement place dans le cerveau, mais s’effectuent par le biais d’interactions constantes entre le cerveau, le corps, et l’environnement extérieur, matériel et humain. Depuis quelques années, cette notion est exploitée pour relire une grande variété de textes antiques (notamment ceux qui traitent des rapports entre corps et esprit) et pour réinterpréter des phénomènes artistiques anciens (théâtre, danse, arts figurés, architecture). Le séminaire explorera la portée heuristique de ce concept pour la compréhension de l’engagement physique et intellectuel des spectateurs dans la représentation théâtrale.

The second seminar of the InSpectA project, entitled "The bodily engagement of spectators: sensorimotricity and embodied cognition" will take place on Monday, January 17th, 2022. It will bring together specialists in ancient drama, theatre studies and experimental psychology to discuss the notion of embodied cognition, i.e. the hypothesis that cognitive processes (perception, reasoning, memory, imagination, etc.) do not only take place inside the brain, but through constant interactions between the brain, the body, and the external environment, both material and human. In recent years, this notion has been exploited to revisit a wide range of ancient texts and to reinterpret artistic phenomena (theatre, dance, figurative arts, architecture). The seminar #2 will explore the heuristic dimension of this concept for understanding the physical and intellectual engagement of ancient spectators in theatrical performance.
