Macroeconomics ECO-3105

In the course “Macroeconomics", the main approaches in modern international macroeconomics are explained in depth. It is designed for students with sound knowledge of basic macroeconomic models.

The course starts with a revision of the fundamentals of macroeconomics starting with the Keynesian cross and the IS-LM-model. As a next step, the balance of payment, exchange rates, and exchange rate systems are presented. This includes a discussion of the main factors influencing the balance of payments and exchange rates. Then the Mundell-Fleming model will be introduced which adds exchange rates and the balance of payments to the IS-LM- model. Then, the course covers the AS-AD model for open economies. Finally, models of long-term growth will be discussed.

Throughout the course, we will discuss questions and do exercises to apply the theories that we learnt in class. This lays the foundation for more advanced courses in macroeconomics.
