Course Description

This course is designed to improve your English through learning to perform short scenes with a partner (duologues). We’ll rehearse the short scenes several times before any assessment occurs. Although we’ll do a lot of work on the physical and practical aspects of pronunciation and theatre acting, we’ll also look into some basic pronunciation and acting theory, which will be assessed through online homework exercises.

This course is ideal for students who:

  • have a B2+ (or higher) level of English in their grammar and vocabulary, but struggle with pronunciation or have never had explicit pronunciation teaching;
  • have a B2+ level of English in general, but find that they learn pronunciation, grammar and vocabulary more easily through speaking and listening than through reading and writing;
  • students who have either a very French (or other language) accent and want to learn about a British accent, or students who already have the beginnings of a British accent and want to improve it.

Warning: if you already have the beginnings of a US accent, you may not want to take this course because you might waste your time trying to unlearn a perfectly understandable accent! We always have teachers in the Centre de Langues who have a US or US-adjacent accent, and you’d probably be better off taking their classes to improve your pronunciation. If you have any doubts at all about what kind of accent you have and whether this course would be suitable for you, please call Yan on 04 37 37 60 84.

Objectives

  • To improve your English pronunciation (but also some vocabulary and grammar) via theatre games and performances.
  • To introduce you to different English-speaking comedy and drama traditions and productions.
  • To help you enjoy speaking and moving in an anglophone space with the aim of entertaining yourself and others.
