Session 1
Collective discussion on the terms of the course topic: Time and places of migrations.
Reading (in class) of the following paper ; Malmberg Gunnar, “Time and Space in International Migration,” in International Migration, Immobility and Development, Routledge, 1997.
The end of the course will be devoted to a discussion on the topics that students may/wish to address in the following sessions.
Session 2
Students must come to class with a suggested topic to be explored. They should bring a preliminary proposition of readings (one, two or three). The documents (research paper and primary sources) will be submitted later (at least one week before the presentation).
The program of the semester will be set at that time.
The session will be devoted to the question of the coolie trade, focusing on a paper and sources submitted by the teacher.
