This course is designed to boost your English writing skills from B2 to B2+, if not C1, and is meant specifically for students who feel like they have been ‘stagnating’ in their English learning. We will focus on grammar and vocabulary, and writing to inform and entertain in a casual or consultative register (not a formal register). There will also be some unmarked pronunciation teaching and many pair and group discussion exercises.
There is no set topic for this course: you will choose the subject of your blog. You’ll discuss this with your teacher in the first class. Please be aware that if you choose to write a literary blog, you will NOT be writing essays, dissertation, commentaries, or literary critiques – you will be writing blog posts about books you would/ would not recommend.
During the third class of the semester, you will write your very first blog post. You will then receive written feedback and a mark, and using that you will edit it in the next class. You will also receive audio feedback and a mark for your edited blog post. This cycle will happen three times during the semester.
Finally, there will be online grammar and vocabulary exercises to do throughout the semester that will help you with the final online grammar and vocabulary exam.
