March 3, 2022.  Message from Jean-François Pinton to the ENS de Lyon communities

Dear all,

The war in Ukraine threatens peace in Europe and freedom. In the face of this crisis, I condemn, on my behalf and on behalf of everyone in the School, the aggression of which Ukraine is a victim. Firstly, I would like to express our solidarity with all Ukrainians, as well as with all students, academic and scientific communities in the areas concerned.

This crisis has mobilized us to ensure the safety of our students and staff working abroad, both in Ukraine and in Russia.

Since last Thursday, ENS de Lyon has been in regular contact with all students who were in Russia. They are now back in France or in the process of coming back. The School will cover the costs related to their repatriation.

We have also reassured our Russian students studying here that, despite the rumors that may be circulating, ENS de Lyon, like all French universities and schools, is committed to maintaining their stay at our institution. I invite you to read the message from France Universities concerning the false information in the Russian media: https://franceuniversites.fr/actualite/luniversite-francaise-denonce-les-fausses-informations-des-medias-russes/

The PAUSE program has been relaunched by the government to ensure the reception of our Ukrainian colleagues.

We will support the other initiatives put in place by the Metropolis or the European Commission and its communities, to help Ukrainians in general and in particular, the student and scientific communities.

I will keep you informed with any updates regarding the situation.

Jean-François PINTON
President of ENS de Lyon
