Ever since it was created in 1666, the French Académie des Sciences has being resolutely committed to the advancement of science and has advised government authorities in those matters and issues deemed within its remit.
Today, the Academy’s Members discharge their missions, to the Nation and the Academy's foundations, in standing committees and working parties set up by the Academy.

CNRS Director of research in mathematics at ENS de Lyon and perpetual secretary of the Academy of Sciences, Etienne Ghys was appointed on 10 January 2018 to the Scientific Council of the French National Education.
