Following the success of the 2016 edition, this 2nd Arts/Sciences/Humanities Thematic School is aimed at students of L3 or M1 of the ENS de Lyon and the CHEL[s] member schools. For 3 days, in various places of the ENS de Lyon, students will participate in the reflection and exchanges with renowned speakers, meet students from all disciplines, develop innovative projects and participate in events and cultural evenings.
Julie Le Gall, geographer at the École Normale Supérieure of Lyon (EVS laboratory) wants to help us understand the Anthropocene. Together with her colleague Olivier Hamat, an INRA biologist at the RDP Laboratory, she initiated training on the Anthropocene, the post-Holocene geological period that will begin when human activities had an impact on ecosystems. "The goal is to help students to think about their time on earth, and to become major stakeholders in the planet" explains Julie Le Gall. In 2016, the École welcomed 70 students for 3 intensive days, with conferences, workshops and cultural events. "Living in the age of the Anthropocene, it's not about just trying to fix what has been done, but wondering how are we dealing with the current situation through a new relationship to the environment and to others" adds the geographer, which encourages students to carry out projects on the subject.
The training is interdisciplinary, both on the students’ side (scientific and literary) and the speakers. The overall reflection that surrounds this subject and the fact that it is the only training of this type in France makes it a particularly innovative project.
