The IAO is organizing a conference about Asian comics.

The presentation will draw on the latest publications coordinated by Jaqueline Berndt, Professor of Japanese Language and Culture at Stockholm University, as book editor: Cambridge Companion to Manga and Anime (Cambridge University Press, 2024), but also as series editor: Lee I-yun, Taiwan Comics: History, Status, and Manga Influx 1930s - 1990s (Stockholm University Press, 2024); Adina Zemanek (ed.), Sinophone Comics (De Gruyter, forthcoming 2025).

The conference will explore possible future developments in Asian comics research, linking regional media dynamics specific to East Asia with international comics studies issues.
