As part of its ongoing commitment to the socio-ecological transition, ENS de Lyon has created the Institut des Mondes Durables.

ENS de Lyon has adopted a Charter of Commitment against all forms of discrimination, racism, antisemitism, violations of rights, incitement to hatred, and violence.

Vanessa Guignery is the new Vice President for International Relations at ENS de Lyon, effective September 1, 2026, bringing to the role her experience in academic research, international engagement and institutional responsibilities. The transition marks a new chapter for the School’s international relations.

On the occasion of the induction of Marc Bloch and his wife, Simonne Vidal, into the Panthéon on June 23, 2026, the École normale supérieure de Lyon honors the legacy of one of the most influential figures in modern French history and in the development of history as a discipline.

Internationalization is a central pillar of ENS de Lyon’s 2025-2026 institutional strategy. Following three international visits in the fall of 2025 by Vincent Michelot, Vice President for International Relations, the School participated in February 2026 in the High-Level Scientific Meetings organized alongside President Macron’s visit to New Delhi, India, and also attended the APAIE (Asia-Pacific Association for International Education) Conference in Hong Kong. In March 2026, ENS de Lyon welcomed a delegation from its long-standing Chinese partner, ECNU (East China Normal University, Shanghai), for the jury meeting of a reconfigured PROSFER program. Vincent Michelot reflected on the priorities underpinning the School’s international strategy in a context profoundly reshaped by the pandemic and increasingly polarized geopolitically.

Lyon 1 Claude Bernard University and the École normale supérieure de Lyon, in partnership with the Hospices Civils de Lyon, are launching a dual degree program in Medicine and the Humanities in the fall of 2026. This program trains physicians to apply research in the humanities and social sciences to better understand the social, cultural, environmental, and organizational determinants of care, and to enhance the quality, relevance, and equity of patient care.

For the first time in France since 1983, the 15th European Girls’ Mathematical Olympiad (EGMO) will be held in Bordeaux from April 9 to 15, 2026. Supported by ENS de Lyon, this international competition for girls brings together 60 countries and nearly 250 participants, and promotes gender equality in science and technology fields.

In New Delhi, French and Indian researchers and institutions gathered in February 2026 for the High-Level Academic and Scientific Meetings (RUSH), an event dedicated to scientific and academic cooperation. ENS de Lyon took part in roundtable discussions on AI and health, while also participating in numerous bilateral meetings to strengthen Franco-Indian partnerships. 

From February 11 to March 12, ENS de Lyon is offering events and resources on issues related to women's rights and the visibility of women in research.

From February 11, 2026, International Day of Women and Girls in Science, to March 12, 2026, Science is a Woman's Job Day, meet women involved in research at ENS de Lyon, take part in events dedicated to women's rights and gender equality, and learn about ENS de Lyon's initiatives and commitments to gender equality.

Openness and diversity feature prominently among the strategic actions of ENS de Lyon's institutional project. A new master plan for professional equality between women and men has been adopted for 2024-2026, with a number of key actions that reinforce the policy of equality and prevention of gender-based and sexual violence for both students and staff. Particular attention is being paid to girls' and women's access to scientific fields and careers, as well as to the working conditions of female PhD students and young researchers.

On the School's website and social media pages, meet inspiring women who are committed to research with determination and passion. ENS de Lyon pays tribute to their careers, which prove that women have a rightful place in research.

After receiving his honorary doctorate, Hartmut Rosa joined Christine Détrez, Olivier Hamant, and Lukas Pairon in a roundtable discussion about acceleration, alienation, and resonance as ways of relating to the world. Watch the video of this conference.

Renowned sociologist and political philosopher, professor at Friedrich Schiller University in Jena and director of the Max Weber College at the University of Erfurt, Hartmut Rosa will honor us with his presence at ENS de Lyon on December 15, 2025, as part of the ceremony to award him an Honoris Causa Doctorate, followed by a public lecture in English entitled: “Acceleration, Alienation, and Resonance: Forms of Connecting with the World.” Here, we invite you to discover his rich professional and academic career, as well as the various scientific fields to which he has made significant contributions. ENS de Lyon press release, June 19, 2025

Following the day of mobilization on June 28, 2024 in Lyon and Istanbul, a press release from the Coordination of Solidarity Committees with Pınar Selek was released after the hearing. It was noted that the trial has been adjourned again, with a date set for February 7, 2025. The support of the entire academic community in Lyon, France and the groups rallying in support of Pinar continues. 

Pinar Selek's 5th court trial will take place in Istanbul on June 28. ENS de Lyon will be showing its support at the Lyon City Hall.

The start of the 2023-2024 academic year at ENS de Lyon marks the beginning of a new phase for the institution, following a year of provisional administration. Appointed President on May 26, Emmanuel Trizac outlined his plans to the Board of Directors in July. The Board today approved the composition and remit of the new governance team.

On March 21, 2023, Lamine Boubakar is appointed interim administrator of the École normale supérieure de Lyon.

Mr. Yanick Ricard, interim administrator of ENS de Lyon since September 1, 2022, has submitted his resignation on Monday, March 20, 2023.

The Administrative Council of ENS de Lyon unanimously approves the motion of support to Pinar Selek.
